Play custom dungeon without Steam?

Post by J-Rodder »

So I bought the game on GOG.com. I do have a steam account, but not with Grimrock. I downloaded a custom dungeon, and put it in the Grimrock folder. I cannot select it as a custom start dungeon. Am I missing something?

The beta version of Grimrock with the implementation of the dungeon editor is only downloadable through Steam. When it has an official release, it'll be available in all versions of Grimrock, but until then you can't load custom dungeons without it.

Ok good enough. I was afraid it was something like that. Well I will eagerly await the final release and the updated version to GOG so I can play!

Well, you can load dungeons from nexus, some people do and play dungeons from nexus.

Unzip (it turns into a .dat file) the dungeon file in the Dungeons folder, and it should work.

But they don't have a button for custom dungeon.

no, they don't, not unless they have Grimrock from steam or have a steam key and got the updated beta for the main game so it can run custom dungeons

Okay, so I downloaded the latest version from GOG, and patched with the patcher. All is working. I am playing via WINE in Linux. Where is the "dungeons" folder located? Not seeing it in the wine dir. Do I have to create it?

*edit* nevermind. I simply made a custom dungeon using the editor, and looked up the path there. Sitting in "my documents" symlinked to the /home dir.

I have no idea how your folders will be set up with WINE and Linux! But, if you can find the save game files then you'll be in the right neighborhood. On windows the save game files are in the Documents/Almost Human/Legend of Grimrock folder, and then within that folder you'll need to make or find a "Dungeons" folder, then put any dungeonname.dat files right in there.
