Wasteland 2 (Kickstarter funded)
not sure if the devs mind me posting about this game, (game currently asking for funding on Kickstarter) if its against your forum rules please delete, don't want to offend, but as there might be people who like old school RPG games like fallout 1 and 2, X Com (old version) then this might be up their street
I never played the original WL1, however this game is the grand daddy of RPGs, and went on to make fallout 1 and 2 possible (in fact most of the team behind the fallout games, are present in this new one
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/wasteland-2
forget FPS, this will be a top down game, basically if you liked fallout 1 and 2, this game will be up your street, I pledged $50 for the boxed edition, the gaol is 900,000, but I hope they get more, and already at $585,769 at the time of writing, while this might not be the runaway success like the double fine game, but its certainly building up, and if it hits 1.5 million, the game will be even bigger
they tried to pitch this to publishers, but they don't care, well sod them, kickstarter funded projects do seem to be a good way of getting a game off the ground, ok a game production costs are way higher, but indie games are the future for PC, as more and more publishers turn their back on the PC market and we get the rare end of the deal, (there been talk that this might be ported on mac, so if there is enough funds, then this may happen
I loved the fallout games, 3 was complete rubbish, as was NV, not the same type of game at all,
so lets show thos stupid publishers there IS demand for old school games like these, and help raise enough money to make this game possible
otherwise, publishers will keep pumping the same old crap, making games even poorer and more samely with each sequel and release, brothers and sisters stand by me and give a clear message to publishers, these types of games are still in demand. and the RPG genre is alive and kicking

Re: Wasteland 2 (Kickstarter funded)
awesome, I'm tempting to pledge $100, but I may not yet, I pledged $50 which is a boxed edition and some nice extras, and they have now reached over $700,000 so the rate they are going, (and with 33 days to go) I'm pretty sure it will hit the $900,000 figure what they wanted within a day, so I think they have a good chance of getting maybe 2 mill maybe even 3 mill (like the double fine adventure (funding closed for that)
so anything is possible, and I wasn't expecting the double fine adventure to reach over 3 mill, so that has made a lot more people aware of Kickstarter and that its possible to get good funds if its a game people really want
you know, maybe for Legend of Grimrock 2 the devs could do a KS project for that, I will certainly pledge a fair bit, if there is talk of a sequel

Re: Wasteland 2 (Kickstarter funded)
To be honest though, As good as Kickstarter is for niche games, I don't really want to see too many "great ideas" popping up at once. I only got so much money to go around.
And as for Almost Human- well, I hope sells from Grimrock will cover their expanses and keep them going for many years to come!

Re: Wasteland 2 (Kickstarter funded)
I know what you mean, I spent a lot on the double fine game, then Wasteland 2 pops up, and I spend again
must have power to resist pledging if other games comes up, otherwise it will ruin me
still both games were worth pledging for, I think Wasteland 2 certainly is, and give a clear message to publishers that these types of games are still wanted
well, the project has gone over the minimum funding level, so hope it reaches the 1.5 level in a few days, if that happens, the game will be ported to mac, (there is talk of it it might have a unix version, but not confirmed, but if there is enough funding and demand, it might happen, and the game world will be even bigger at 1.5 mil
if it goes up to 2 mill or beyond, who knows what extras will be in the game, seriously, I hope publishers realise the error of their ways, and stop trying to kill the game industry with constant COD games, BF whatever games, and other FPS games that last only an hour or 2, that is why I would like to see more indie games going down the KS route (even though Im going to have to put my foot down to stop myself from funding too many
publishers while money making is their chief concern now, they are killing games and ideas, there not been that many original games from publishers anymore, there are way too many FPSs and that really annoys me
I want classic games, and projects like double fine and wasteland 2 are helping there
ok games do cost a lot, but many of the big budget games are FPS, as they need 3D models, voice actors, sound, and the latest and greatest graphics engine so that it looks pretty, there are other costs as well, but in the end, I think if wasteland 2 can be made as a top down game for say 1.5 mil, then many old school games can too, I don't consider graphics when it comes to playing a game, but gameplay, and that is something many including publishers are forgetting these days, as long as the gameplay is there, it doesn't matter what the game looks like, and there are many good games that are additive but don't look very good, so in the case of wasteland 2, you don't need a top of the line graphics engine, just something that can play the game in a top down view
anyway that is my two cents
can't wait for the game

Is it just me who keeps reflexively refreshing to see how much more money has accumulated?

Definitely not just you .
Re: Wasteland 2 (Kickstarter funded)
I refreshed it earlier. The next big milestone is $2.1 million, that gets Obsidian/Chris Avellone involved.
Daniel.

I think it will easy reach that and a bit more, not only will Chris Avellone get involved, there will be tools and a bit more, the engine as far as I know has not been determined, there been a few hints on the engine, but remeber this engine needs to be playable on PC, mac and unix
I hope we can get to 2.1 million, pretty sure it will and I have been refreshing that page a lot, so this a certainly a good thing

So, less then 200K to go...
It's no small amount, but I really hope they'll reach it in time. This game has freaking amazing potential.
