Hi,
Toward the end of level 9 there is a locked door and four alcoves with a riddle next to each. Frankly, I'm stumped by this as there don't seem to be any clues from the context as to what's required. Managed to get this far without needing solutions for any of the core puzzles, so I'm looking for hints, rather than solutions - I could get the latter easily enough from the internet if I wanted.
So a couple of questions to help me on my way:
1) I am right in assuming I have to place specific objects, related to the clues, in those alcoves to open the door? This isn't some sort of red herring?
2) If objects are required, are all the objects needed found on level 9? Is there any sort of rhyme or reason that binds the needed objects together?
Cheers,
Matt

Yes.mattdp wrote:1) I am right in assuming I have to place specific objects, related to the clues, in those alcoves to open the door?
When the right item is placed in an alcove you will hear a click so you'll know it's what was asked for.
Some, but not all.mattdp wrote:2) If objects are required, are all the objects needed found on level 9?
No, at least not that I'm aware of. IMO it's homage to a similar puzzle in Dungeon Master.mattdp wrote:Is there any sort of rhyme or reason that binds the needed objects together?

When you place the correct item you will get a nice click.
would you like some subtle hints on the specific items?
"Game's Bane, with head of steel"
"Tear of the Land"
"Severed Dread"
"Unraveller of Mysteries"

Ah right, thanks. I often play with the sound off and hadn't noticed so that's helpful.Dr.Disaster wrote:When the right item is placed in an alcove you will hear a click so you'll know it's what was asked for.
Harsh! I don't remember that puzzle in Dungeon Master, but it was a very long time ago.Dr.Disaster wrote:No, at least not that I'm aware of. IMO it's homage to a similar puzzle in Dungeon Master.
Thanks for these! Will see if I need them when I get home tonight and start playing again.Komag wrote:would you like some subtle hints on the specific items?

With the sound OFF?!? That's a very bad choice!mattdp wrote:Ah right, thanks. I often play with the sound off and hadn't noticed so that's helpful.Dr.Disaster wrote:When the right item is placed in an alcove you will hear a click so you'll know it's what was asked for.
Sound is a lot of times the only hint you get to things happening off-screen!
It's the entrance hall of level 6 named "The Riddle Room".mattdp wrote:Harsh! I don't remember that puzzle in Dungeon Master, but it was a very long time ago.Dr.Disaster wrote:No, at least not that I'm aware of. IMO it's homage to a similar puzzle in Dungeon Master.

Yes, I learned that the hard way trying to solve the time & tide puzzle, but still keep forgetting to check - as in this instance. It's not entirely my choice - I play a lot on my laptop while my wife is watching TV, so I turn the sound off so as not to disturb her and don't wear earphones so we can chat.Dr.Disaster wrote:With the sound OFF?!? I wear some lightweight earphones (not earbuds, mind you) that are slightly off my ears, so I can pretty comfortably hear both the game and my wife and kids

Heh as long as you don't shout "close that door kid!" when you hear a faint sound far awayKomag wrote:I wear some lightweight earphones (not earbuds, mind you) that are slightly off my ears, so I can pretty comfortably hear both the game and my wife and kids
