Hold your horses, boys and girls :)

The editor is pretty much feature complete now but there are some kinks we still want to iron out. I hope to finish coding by the end of this week but it's going to be a tight deadline. Generally we want to make sure that everything works as smooth as possible.

After coding is complete we still need to extensively test the editor and also the game - a lot of internal changes have been made to the game to make modding possible. We'd also like to patch a few issues in the base game with the editor release.

Waiting for this editor is like Zeno's Paradox.

It always feels like tons of progress has been made, and yet there's still as much left to do as I thought there was the last week.

First of all, I want to congratulate the Grimrock team for making such an awesome game. It's fantastic truly, I can't wait to see the dungeon editor. I am still very unsure about how it will be implemented but there are a couples of ideas I thought worth of sharing.
  • I think the ability to include an intro and ending with text and/or still images would be great. As we have the world map, there is so much other adventures I can think of.
  • Each dungeon should have a mandatory small survey at the end to note appreciation, this way it would be very easy to track the overall quality of user created content.
  • An in game utility to find user created dungeons would be awesome, yet I know it might be hard to menage. And that it would need a server to distribute, it would however be awesome.
  • A dungeon check up utility that will confirm that a dungeon is complete before it could be uploaded to the servers. For example it check if there is an intro, a dungeon and an ending. Duh...
  • Importing characters that have completed other dungeons, for example my characters that have finished the Grimrock dungeon.
I hope theses ideas get noticed by the developers, user created content is a powerful tool that can make or break a game. If it's well implemented, it potentially gives an almost infinite replay value and some of the user created content have the potential to be even better than the original dungeon ! Which will be hard to do, but if it's done, then the game truly shine.

Will there be any way to export/import characters from one dungeon to another? This would be great as you could then play a series of dungeons etc with your favourite characters. :)
