Tech support? Once you download it what can possibly go wrong - apart from getting stuck on a puzzle?

I believe this to be a misquotation. The correct quote is, "If that guy has any way of making a mistake, he will." referring to an engineering assistant who attached an accelerometer wrong way around on an experimental aeroplane, and thus the speed always showed zero on some test flight.

The more generic law would be Finagle's Law, "The perversity of the Universe tends towards a maximum.".

I am still deciding to buy from here or from GoG. I am not a Steam fan, I use GoG pretty often. One of my concerns is how does AH plan to provide updates or patches to the standalone installer gotten from here? On GoG, they ensure necessary updates are applied whenever you download their games, on Steam it uses an auto-updater. What about if we buy direct from AH?

Will we be able to get updates? Do we need to keep the email with our download link in order to get patches or updates?

Don't have the quote offhand, but the standalone version provided from AH directly will have all the same patches and updates and the purchase from gog.

Yes, the installer will be patched when you download it the first time, but what if we misplace our download link? I mean yes I will have a Steam key to fall back on, but that will get me the Steam version of the game, not a DRM free standalone version.

Considering that LoG has been the number one selling title on GOG, whatever negative revenues may result from using their distribution network could be rationalized as marketing dollars, provide the #1 selling title is communicated well.
