small update. I took a couple days off for a weekend trip and I'm back half way through level 7. It seems the same so far, totally possible, jsut slow going.

I ended up taking the advice for spellmagic to 5 to get a light. I think i was jsut being stubborn about it. light isnt needed, but it is nicer with it.

finding protection not as advantagious as evasion was for my monk, but its really hard to tell comparing a member of a 4 char party to a singleton. Def seems to be eating more food now that I have heavy armour on him. Is that my imagination?

Hi.

probably no imagination.

athanatic_cube has done some incredible analysis of this game:

And based on his analysis I would say: Protection is less effective then evasion; also you need to carry a lot more weight around, which probably has some effect on how fast you need to eat again.

All the best!

Hi. As Liam mentioned, I can definitely confirm that Evasion is almost always better than Protection, at least at higher values. And I don't think you are imagining things about the food consumption being tied to carried weight either. I first noticed this when I had twin Insectoid Mages (same stats) with one carrying more weight than another. I left this a "tenuous observation" in my analysis (thanks for mentioning it, Liam), but perhaps should call it a confirmed one instead.... (Makes sense - your body burns more calories to do more work.)

Attacks also seem to consume some food (since they count as actions), therefore mages seem to need less food in general since they never perform actual attacks and energy regeneration is for free, or am i mistaken?

Trouble with protection is, that it only WOULD work against attacks which are guaranteed to hit, like enemy arrows, fireballs, poison and such. But protection has no effect on any kind of elemental damage and - even worse - there is only a single enemy type which deals physical-type, non-AoE ranged damage, beeing the skeleton archers. If there were more archers and less AoE spells then armor would be worth a consideration since armored characters would serve the purpose of a real "wall of meat" whereby evasion based tanks would receive more damage from such sources.

Maybe it would be worth a try, to see what happens when some enemys got a secondary ranged attack in addition to their melee attack. This wouldn't affect the actual combat much since enemy projectiles follow the same rules as player projectiles (beeing blocked by other units) but it would force the player to actually consider the use of heavy armor when approaching such enemies.

Hi.

I just finished playing Toorum on "easy".

I know, I know. This topic is about Toorum on hard; so what I write here is just for comparison. ;)

He ended up as a lvl 15 Character with all the Valor armor available (except for the shield); and yet: the end-game is still as challenging. Even more challenging then expected.
Since you seem to have quite an easy game during most dungeon levels (really - the Uugardians and Goromorgs and ice-dinoasur-things and Ogres and Golems are really no trouble; you start playing like being lazy and like beeing in some kind of a "comfort-zone". And then "boss" strikes. And he is no less challenging (maybe hitpoint-wise?) then on hard... Took me a while to get used to challenging him.

I tell you: The first time I played LoG on hard. But playing it with Toorum on "easy" almost let me forget how hard "hard" was ... The "boss" let me remember. And it was a painful lessen with some re-loadings.

But to be frank here: The challenging part with the boss is especially the

huge amount of beasts blocking your way all the time; and if you don't take care enough, you end up in a dead-end... Hooray!
Anyway: Lotsa fun!
And this time I found all skulls and treasures and secrets in the game ... Sadly though ...
SpoilerShow
I did not find ONE SINGLE Toorum note ... I so much wonder why ...
Now it is time to play Toorum again - on hard, and more focussed on his magic abilities ... ;) Did anyone try this yet? I guess so ...

All the best!
Liam
