So I guess playing without a map just takes much longer.

i have to say the hardest puzzle had to be Pillard Hallway , I was like 5 minutes from looking it up on youtube after trying to figger it out for half an hour then suddenly , i realized i had the note / scroll can't remember which it is which had the anwser on, about the food at the end of my first run i had two crates full of food , mostly snail slices and ice lizard steaks, about final boss , Yes deffo a challenge but fighting in melee was hard but i managed it on Normal with 2 unarmed fighters ( minotaur and lizard ), about secrets, they were a challenge again but some were way to simple and easy to find.

I had problems with the Pillared Hallway due to the starting square. I tried the square before and the square after, but only after a long while did I start from the correct square.

Aye. It was bad that the starting square wasn't marked and I lost my patience there and looked up a video.

Hi.

Instead of starting a new topic containing "the same" I simply add my 2c from first play-through ...

Up until the end the game offered me plenty of fun, excitement and loads and loads of memories from the past. I instantly fell in love with the atmosphere, the awesome and awe-inspiring graphics, the detailed and well anmiated creatures of doom etc.

I am happy to tell you that the game is well playable with the default party, even on the hard level. So there is really no need to min-max the perfect party to play the game. ;)

Some of the arcade-style things tested my patience and skills a lot; and I am happy that I solved them. :)

I only found 5 skulls and 4 treasures; also I was not able to open the final two steal-doors, 'cause I did not find the key or the proper mechanism/ trick to open them up. But I am very glad that I don't have the feeling of having missed something on this game.

The magic-system is incredible and awesome. To be perfectly honest: I don't this is one of the least things that "needs" changes. You have only a handful of different speels per element; therefore no one should have trouble remembering the proper set-p for the spells. And having to "build up" the spell during any situation is not so much of an issue, is it? Many good spells are available with only one or two symbols. You only need four symbols in order to enhance arrows and bolts ... So I am very fine with the way spell-casting works on this game.

What I really nearly did not use: potions. The concept and the method of mixing them on the fly is pretty cool. I really like that. But even on hard-level you don't need to create potions in order to pass the game. Only during the fighter's challenge I use potions like crazy ...

The food was really no issue. In the beginning I thought: Well, this minotaur is kind of a black hole for food; but with level 6 and all the respawning creatures there really is no issue with food; and later the blue flesh of the Dinosaurs is like astronaut-food deluxe XXL royal TS with sugar on top. But I don't lack the imagination that, if you try to "blitz" through this game, then food might and probably will be an issue ...

(Sorry, it's late ... I hope I am able to make my statements properly ...)

Now I only need to figure how I may replay this game with Toorum ... Simply restarting the game with creating a new party and there simply editing the name to "Toorum" does not work with my LoG game. Someone told me: As soon as I would have finished playing the game the first time I would be able to play "Toorum" ... But that does not work ... I will check the forums about the "how to" and the requirements when I awake again ...

Edit: Ok, I found the information: In order to play Toorum, I need to find his bones, which I did not find in my first playthrough ... Luckily I have something around 90 saves for this game, which btw is one important thing to notice: As with the old games you need to save, save, save the game ... Else you may run the risk of achieving things and loose them in an instant Sysiphos-style ...

Good night!
Liam
At the end of my first time with "the Legend of Grimrock" - played on default-party, hard, old-school mode:

Hi, I'm glad you enjoyed the game. Welcome to the club ;-)
I haven't used potions much either but that's because I'm hoarder and I save all "for later".
Now I'm playing with a party of four mages (it's my fifth play-through), I've just entered to prison (depth 12) and I must admit I'm using a lot more potions now. Partly because during fifth play-through I know that there are plenty of reagents so prudent consumption is not necessary.

While playing with Toorum I have been using lots of potions as well, especially energy potions, since the guy is losing energy not only with special attacks, but also regular ones.

About the saves. Actually you only need one save - the save before engame

The dungeon isn't so huge as it seems and backtracking up to level 1 takes just several minutes. Most levels, upon completion, provide shortcuts and are really fast to run back through (Level 4: Archives; Level 5: Hallways; Level 6: Trapped; Level 8: The Vault; Level 9: Goromorg Temple I; Level 10: Goromorg Temple II). The only level that force you to go through almost entire area every time is Level 7: Ancient Chambers.

The pillared hallway was the puzzle that really got me stuck. I didn't know you had to chop tapestries apart, so I didn't find the clue to solving it. I'd already tried to manipulate the tapestries by clicking no them relentlessly, but since nothing happened I figured they weren't interactive.

Once I googled and found out about the clue it was easy to solve.

Weird. I found it very intuitive to rip them apart. I've been searching for hidden buttons on those walls for so long and suddenly they're covered. It was just screaming to be torn down.

I didn't figure it out either, there had been no other wall coverings in the game previously that you could destroy, and no hints either that I recall.

Daniel.

Exactly. Which is why I clicked them relentlessly only to find nothing happening :)
