In a fact this feature would be great for getting some sleep, food, ... see the kids, wife... you know :-)
Not that I play permadeath anyway, but even if I did I still wouldn't like this particular option. I'd still want to save frequently to protect from read-life interruptions like power failure or mild household emergencies.
In that event this game could do what Demon's Souls and Dark Souls did. Basically constantly autosaving so if the game cuts off you can still resume from the last moment you were at.

Yeah there's nothing you can do about the choice of backing up or deleting the save file, besides the draconian method of encrypting the save in the registry or something (I think an old RPG actually did this...Diablo 1? I can't remember...too long ago), but that is really unnecessary. Perhaps the best way is to choose the permadeath option when starting a new game, and if permadeath is selected, then have the only save option as "Save and quit game" along with autosaves every 15 minutes. To avoid file corruption, if the game is exited normally, the save and autosave will overwrite each other to match. Then of course, if a character dies, the game is immediately saved, and the only way to revive that character is via whatever resurrection option is available.

The save /load slots and the # of save slots are only available for non-permadeath saves, like any traditional save. Maybe I'm a bit off, but if this is how the roguelike games worked, sounds fine to me.

I had to register just to say that I hope permadeath does become an option. I've been wanting to play some good 3d roguelikes so the idea of actually having a permadeath option is music to my ears. Makes me glad I bought the game today :)

If you want permadeath, just.. never ressurrect anyone. Rely on health potions alone. =)

Well, if there is at least death counter for each character (is it?) - but otherwise emotions are not strong enough if death is not permanent.
Remember prince of persia... ? anyone died near the end after on hour trip?

Also when death counter already popped up:
I hope there are some stats - total damage taken, total deaths, total squares travelled, total chests opened, total walls bumped into (I've managed to die once or twice due to collisions with walls - scared enough and running fast :-) or maybe even character stats total spells casted... total seconds character was frozen, on fire, drunk. It would be great if those are avaiable in the game or at least after completion/death.
