No light cast from a held torch

Post by Knight Tobyas »

For some reason the torch I am holding doesn't cast light when I am in the radius of something else that casts light.

This is what it looks like when you are approaching an offending torch,

when you are standing next to it (when you look at it it looks normal),

and when you walk away with the torch behind you.

This is around the corner from a save point. You can actually see the radius of the save point's light and the light from my held torch taking over after it ends.

This doesn't happen with every light source, but it happens enough to be annoying through the first three floor and finally makes some puzzles unsolvable on floor four since I can't see what is happening. I have played around with my video card's Antialiasing and V-sync setting to no avail and with the in game settings. I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and redownloading. Nothing has helped.

I have a pretty old system (Pentium 4, GeForce 6200). I can understand if my computer is just not good enough to handle LoG's lighting system, but I am hoping there is a setting somewhere that I am overlooking.

Um, this is not how the game is supposed to look....!

You need to turn off anti-aliasing in your graphics card's control panel. That should hopefully make the lighting behave correctly.

EDIT: Actually, I don't think your card is fully supported. Min card is listed as GeForce 7600.

I was afraid that would be the response. I've been procrastinating about getting a new computer for almost 5 years, but I guess it's finally time to invest in one.

most definately. grimrock is a pretty GPU-demanding game

If it helps, I have a Radeon 6870 HD and Grimrock runs like a dream... :-)

I got an HD 5770 and it runs very smoothly too (although very few of my other games do).

I believe your problem is not your graphics card, but your processor. Unfortunately, LoG isn't tested to work on single-core processors.

But still, despite that fact, I know a lot of people who run the game on Pentium 4 PCs with no problems.

Maybe try updating your drivers.
