I dont think this idea will be too popular, but Im going to post it anyway
One of the frustrating things about GrimRock I think, is that for most battles you're constantly hitting then sidestepping, around and around in circles until the foe dies.
As much as Im enjoying grimlock, this aspect of the game does get a bit tedious after a while
So a hack n slash mode would let you stand and fight your foes head on.
It would do this by decreasing all damage from foes by 50%. Likewise it would decrease parties damage by 50%, increase health regeneration and slightly increase the effects of protection.
Maybe a few other tweaks to avoid ruining the game balance, but I think this could result in longer battles with an emphasis on slugging it out rather than 'hit and run' tactics
Would it be too early to call the current mode 'classic mode'?
Anyway, my thoughts are that you cannot toggle between classic mode and Hack n Slash mode, only select one at the start of a game
I think it would also provide interesting replay value for the main game

Re: Hack n slash mode
If you were to just stand in one spot wailing on enemies I would say a turn based system would make more sense.

Re: Hack n slash mode
Hi,
Yeah! I thought about it too.
Hack 'n' Slash mode would be great! In fact I've made my party like this: Front line 2 minotaurs (armor and athletics) with 2 shields (1 in each hand on both minotaurs) and than Lizardmen assassins in the second row. This gives you kind of hack and slash mode . Minotaurs took much less damage than lizies. Also they were avoiding almost every hit. Lizies were striking with stabs and critical hits from back. But there is one thing that did not worked with that. Spells and poisons affect whole party and that was something I had to avoid.
About 4 square tactics: It may look ridiculous at start, but This is something that is not so easy when fighting more enemies. and also if there is not enough room for walking 4 squares.
Anyway It would be great to have a little more hack and slash fun in this game.

Or you could just make lots of places where the walls close and the player is forced to fight in a confined space.
That is something I had planned for my dungeon.

That's going to be just annoying and frustrating if done too much. Sometimes it's good to flip the bird to player for little challenge, but definitely not most of the times with rather "cheap" tricks like that.Hissssa wrote:Or you could just make lots of places where the walls close and the player is forced to fight in a confined space.
