elves in Grimrock

Post by Slippery the Gray »

This topic is about adding elves as a playable race in Grimrock just wanted to see what the community thinks about it. like if thay wore implemented what would there states be? would thay be powerful mages with boneis willpower or deadly archers with extera dexterity.

Dwarves would have a trait where all enemies would just fall over dead just because of how awesome you are.

Minotaurs and Insects are fairly unique choices. Lizardmen are usually enemies in RPGs, so why would you want run of the mill fantasy filler? Personally I'm glad they left out elves and especially dwarves, they've gotten so cliche.

While I'm not fan of playable monster races, I'd still rather have a game without the "Tolkien" races.. for once. That's probably what the devs were thinking too with minotaurs instead of half orcs, lizardmen and insectoid instead of elves and halflings.

I'd like to see cultural variations of humans for brute / agile & cunning / wise and knightly / others. The idea of playing a speaking insect or lizard just rubs me the wrong way somehow. 8-)

I don't care what the races are myself. This game is mostly about puzzle solving and exploration. Not much character development in this game.

Well you could use an Insectoid with Elf art, this is what I plan to do, it fits an arcane elf quite nicely.

Although I love my elves and they will be my most nostalgic race for sure I am glad we have unique races and the genre in general is due for a serious renovation to core races imho.
Generally though they follow the same patterns. High magic high damage/str high dex and humans of course the all arounders of which I loathe the most.

To be honest I like those rpgs with uncommon races playable, elves dwarves and the like are far too standard to be fun for me. I hope they'll keep it like this, or had some race as cool as minos/insectoids

They'll still sound like a bug when hit in combat.
