[SOLVED] Level 4 - Trail of thought

Post by Ottyk »

Ok so after about an hour on this room I have given up and came here. This is the section of level 4 where your party must cross a room filled with pressure plates and portals which move depending on where your party stands. To open the door on the other side you must press a button in one corner but standing on the pressure plate on that tile leaves you surrounded by portals.
I assume that this puzzle can be solved by triggering plates with stones but it's a little confusing because some plates seem to be triggered by stones but not others and depending on where you are, sometimes they seem to ignore portals when thrown and land on the plate I threw it at before being teleported back to the start along with myself, because the activated pressure plate moved the portals.
I am totally confused by the seemingly random behaviour of the stones and can't figure out how to solve this puzzle at all. A hint would be nice :) Thanks in advance.

If this is the puzzle that is located in the 3x3 room then the pattern for the portals is actually very simple.
SpoilerShow
Each floor plate toggles portals on all four adjacent tiles. So if you step on a plate which is not surrounded by any portal, you will activate all portals and will have to restart. The way to solve this is to always pick the plate which is adjacent to at least one active portal.
Alternatively, they have walkthrough for this game on gamebanshee.com.
