Next time you visit level 6 try to kill a few more enemies (Skeletons and Uggardian's for example) have a rest if need be, after that the Snails will probably have respawned, do this a few times and you will have a lot of food.
Eventually you get so much you start dumping it! By Level 10 I had dumped 3 boxes and 4 sacks all full of food!

Thanks Darklord,

that pattern works wonders and avoids me going back there every now and then which is just a frustrating time loss. Thanks!

Lack of food makes the game more interesting becasue you have to limit the sleep that you take and push your luck with injured / no energy party members instead of having the option to recoup a limitless amount of time.

If anything, I would like to see things more desperate (finished in hard and had stacks of food leftover). I played and finished Chaos Stikes Back (sequal to DM) and it was really hard going, so I suppose once you have done that any Dungeon Crawler will seem like a trip to the food store with money stuffed in your back pocket.

I didn't have a food problem with my solo Mage, until I resurrected the other party members for a hard stage. Two Minotaurs ate through the food so quickly.

I just found it intresting that other people all seem to get the munchies at level 5, which is exactly what happened to me,probably due to taking too long on puzzles, stopping to admire the view too often and searching every wall, pit, alcove etc for anything i may have missed.
Then came level 6.
Once id worked out where the food supply was it was abreeze after that, but only got there by constantly using the save crystals on the levels above to regenerate.
and dont get me started on what happens the first time you set foot on level 6

"Normal" in today games are "easy" in classic games.
Well I (re)played the entire EOB series + Lands of Lore less than a year before LoG and they are a breeze compared to LoG in standard. BTW in EoB1 there is quite enough food, until your cleric learns "Create Food". Here food is a real problem (I can't see how people can say there is too much).
I was pretty much never running out, or even low, on my first game. But then, I learned in DM never to sleep. :)
