Interested in group project(s)

Ello all,

So, I've fallen in love with this game, and being a PnP DM my mind has been teeming with ideas for dungeons and stories as I've been playing through.

However, some of my ideas are well beyond my abilities. I'm not a graphic designer, a programmer, and hell the dungeon building tools may be beyond my grasp (though I really hope they aren't).

I'm not sure the extent we'll be able to mod in the end, so that may limit/eliminate some of my ideas. I guess we'll see as the tools get released.

In the meantime, I'd love to find some people with the skills I lack, and start brainstorming.

Just to throw some of my ideas out there. Some of these feed of others.
  • New enemies. Many of these would be standard sorts of fantasy. Honestly I think it would be great to pull things from OGL sources, like Pathfinder.

NPCs. It makes sense that there aren't NPCs about to talk to in Grimrock. But it would be great to make some for future mods.

Outdoors. A possibly lofty idea. I'm not sure if it'll even be possible, or anything anyone would want to attempt. Being able to create outdoor settings would unlock so many more possibilities. I've played an iOS Crawler series (can't for the life of me remember the name) that did the outdoor thing. So maybe...

Weapon/Armor degradation. This would be for people who want even more of a challenge. This would be tied in with another mod.

Weapon/Armor crafting/repair. Tied in with the gear degradation. A crafting system (not too unlike the alchemy system?) would be pretty cool.

Grimrock Prequel. A story about how the default group came to be sentenced to their fate. What crime did they commit? Or were believed to have commit?

A futuristic campaign. This would be a lofty project. I was thinking something with a theme like Buck Rogers (simply in that sort of old era futurism). It would require a hell of a lot of work though.

Maybe my ideas are too far out there. Maybe not. Maybe the modding tools will be too limited to get some of this done. If you have any input, or are interested in starting up a modding group, pipe in!

Whatever may happen, I'm really looking forward to seeing what the modding community turns out.

Those are all great ideas and innovations. They may be feasible as long as they're not lavishly overdone, you know?

Awesome! I'd love to have you on board. I figure everyone can bring their own special abilities to the group, as well as have input on the story and overalls of the levels.

I've been brainstorming over some new classes, skills, and traits. Ninjas, Paladins, Clerics, Barbarians, and more.

Absolutely with you there. It seems to me that a lot of mods, and modding groups, come up with great ideas, but reach way too far from the start, and end up either never finishing, or come out with something lackluster.

I figure this group could start simple, get our bearings, and then work slowly in 'segments' so to speak. So we don't bite off more than we can chew.

good idea...a trap i have fell into to many times. First we should find out what we`ll be able to do with the tools given by the devs.
In generall though i guess the first thing would be what we would want out of our "in progress" mod.

I guess starting to figure out new classes would be biting over to much, or am I wrong?? Not sure how this would work.
But remember to put in Ranger :D

Aye. I think much of this will have to be figured out when we know how many people we have, what their skills are, and what sort of limitations we may be facing with the modding tools.

I don't think so. Right now they're simply conceptual. Their basic traits (though the leveling progression isn't something I've bothered to touch), and the rough idea of the class.

Ranger, absolutely. I'm not entirely sure how to bring it into its own, while giving it six stats, and yet keeping it balanced. I'll have to mull it over.

Good.
Also with regard to the outdoor stuff you mentioned in your first post, you should check out Lands of lore 1, it did have some outdoor stuff with trees and swamps (which was really cool  ) and so on. I havent really played these kinds of games but when i learned About LOG i played lands of lore just to check out the genre since alot of people suggested it and found it quite pleasing. I also tried Lol2 but in those days when they tried doing stuff with a "realistic" feel i found it offputting so i diden`t play it. Of course alot of these games where made like this and people seems to like them, maybe you would.

Have you any idea of what kind of story you would want?
I also thought of taking a placename from the map the creators gave us, if they would let us.
But i guess we only need ask. The isle Nex gave me some shivers but that could be me. :D
But Now im just babbeling
