If I recall in Dungeon Master, there were always wandering monsters. There kind of had to be as a source of food. I recall many back-tracking forays into the upper levels just to stock up on food... I see no reason why this sort of detail wouldn't be in LOG. It's a real-time game. The dungeon is alive, I assume, just as it was in Dungeon Master. In DM, the dungeon had its mysteries. It was always dangerous. Safe places were rare, and when you did find them they often became a refuge when you needed to sleep and recover.

No respawning monsters mean you can control the leveling progress much easier, I guess. You'll always know roughly which level the characters will be and can tune the game difficulty accordingly.
