Is there a level cap?

Post by Lorebot »

So I've run through the game once and I'm starting my 2nd play through on hard with old school mode on, but as I was planning my character builds I realized that I'm not truly sure of what level my characters can get to. In my first play I finished the game on normal with all my characters at lvl14, I hadn't gotten a single one of them to 50 in any of the skills and I did just fine through the entire game. I'm figuring that Hard will be different and if I don't plan a bit better I'll regret it later on, so I'd like to know what the level cap is if there is one and how many skill points I could have to plan with.

There's a soft cap of 13-14, getting higher would involve farming mobs in the last boss room for a while, or lizards for even a longer amount of time. You also get 3 skill books(+5skill) and 1 fire book(+3firemagic) that you can work into your builds, as well as the Skilled trait(+3 on creation).

if that's the case then the most skill points you can earn by leveling without extensive farming of respawning mobs is 56. that's not a lot of wiggle room if you plan on taking your guys to 50 in any skill :(

You might want to double check your math. A level 13 Human with Skilled has 55 skill points.

I did specify 'earned' skill points.

4 points per lvl, 14 lvls, 56 skill points from leveling

I wasn't including extra points from race, class, traits, or books.

Edit: oops, my bad...you start at lvl 1 so you only lvl 13 times on your way to 14...so 52 points from leveling...even worse >.<

Note the tomes though, for 8 more points in any skill. Of course only for one of your guys, but still... yeah it's pretty bad.

Theres also the Spirit Mirror Pendant which gives 25% faster exp to the wearer, sadly theres only one in the game and of course only applies to one character... and doesn't really help with the soft level cap...

I used the pendant on my rouge the whole game, by the end of the game he was level 14 and everone else was 12, I also used all my skill books on my rouge, he has Assassination maxed at 50 and Daggers at 23... wish I could have gotten both of those skills maxed before the last boss :\

Pendant is obtained
