I'm surprised at how many people interpret the cube as a race; I'd always imagined it being some sort of AI type thing

Hard to say if they are "sentient race" or machines built by some other folk. I know atleast that there are more cubes somewhere since the text in the weapon of power says "Long time ago, these weapons were used to fight and imprison the cubes". There really should be DLC/expansion with cube-dungeon where those things roll around the hallways. :D
is it just me or did anyone else think the Legionnaires.

Sounded vary mechanitcal. Not like armor marching but like pistons and robots marching. At first I was just thinking it was a sound design issue. But I'm starting to think that was the plan with their sound desgin. It is starting to make sense to me. All he gear symbols that Cube dude might have had the fansty equivalent of a robot army at some point in the past.
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Yes. Yes it does.

Actually, if there's nothing blocking you like this
C P E
(Cube, Party, Empty square)
it does like 30-ish damage and pushes you into the empty square.
not me, no matter where i was, it was one hit to kill...
I tested it today again and it seems that it depends on what you're doing.

Once I was pushed back two squares with 30 damage each time before I got pushed into a wall and finally got squashed.
Then another time I tried to intentionally get into his way and got squished while moving there, even if there was some space behind me. I think it also depends on the direction you're looking, but I'm not sure about that.
When destiny calls, the chosen have no choice.

I don't know about the legionaries being robotic but I do think he had an army. the statues in hallways seem to suggest that they had skin and unique features in the past. Cyborgs maybe...but I dunno about terminator style robots
