Best place to grind EXP (SPOILER)

Post by Bardamu »

1. In my opinion its on level 6, the fire maze.
When you leave it, close and open the door again, most of the time two Ugguards respawn, which give 500 exp each (there is a crab too, which gives 450 optionally). If you have a frostmage, they are easily killed. You can normally spawn a third Ugguard, by clicking the first three buttons in the maze.
Frost skilled high enough, will freeze them very long, so that you can easily kill them. Don't forget, that every character has to hit them at least one time, for full exp.
You can leave level 6 to the lower levels from time to time, cause they endlessly respawn.
And in the near there is the snail-room for food.

2. The ice lizards on level 9 (650 Exp each)

3. The prison without releasing the endboss.

not sure: 4. Goromogs, these wizards on level 10: When you jump down a pit in the great room with the ogres in it and return through the stairs, there will spawn Goromogs (1000 each). This can be repeated as it seems. Having a frost mage in your party will again help a lot.

Would be a good idea, to take the orb from level 9, i think, which gives you 5 willpower. Combine it with the Conjurers hat, that should give you 2 Willpower, and a 2nd orb or the shaman staff(+2), and you will earn mass energy every time you level up.
It's sad a bit, that there are very few items with vitality on them, so that you can't really push your hp this way.

I don't remember them respawning but I will definitely check this out. I wanted to give my hardmode party an edge and this may be just the thing.

I'd have thought the respawning mobs on 9 would be better, though they're slightly tougher

And the drop the best food. Fills your Nom bar all the way and drops fairly common. On my 2nd play I plan on using both these areas to build up a bit since solo is fairly brutal as it is.
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

I've started level 10 so unaware of what lies ahead but for now I agree on level 9. Good experience and great food supply. The developers timed it right providing those steaks on level 9; at the end of level 8 my party was 2 feedings away from starving.

Is there a specific way to make the lizzards on level 9 respawn?

Wander about their area a bit and make sure both entrance and exit are locked or they'll wander off around the level.

yeah .... stay in their maze. They will spawn endlessly while your in the maze.

Also sleeping at any of the gates into their maze worked fine for me. But I did have to wander a bit sometimes before they popped.

I wasn't really grinding them per say but I found out the hard way that sleeping at the gate makes them come back.

I made nice piles on levels 5 and 6 so I have everything categorized... that being said I had to go back through the maze a few times.

I went with athletics for the stat bonuses and the carrying capacity and the food reduction. Combined with my insect mages I never had a problem with food. In fact it's all in nice neat little piles up on level 5 and 6 (some of them are in crates).

The only food I was eating for most of the game were snail slices and eventually the steaks.

That being said if you do want to grind you can do like I did and make piles on level 6; when you go back kill everything there (few snails, the fire guys, 2 crabs).

I'm not absolutely clear about the question, what makes the Ugguards respawn. Perhaps its time, perhaps leaving the room, going for a short visit to the snails ...
But it works quite well over all.
