Developer's attitude and the community
Re: Developer's attitude and the community
dbgager, you are digging yourself an unending hole here. Your debate tactics seem to consist of :
1 - Misrepresent or twist what the other guy is asking
2 - Move the goalposts when he/she responds to your disingenuous nonsense
3 - Tell them to "go play another game then" when this is pointed out to you
Not a lot of "Win" there buddy. Give up now.
My 2C is this; some people are perfectly happy with the game. Great. No problem. Others, myself included, would like to see certain aspects of the ergonomics changed for the better, (IMO!). Note to those who would (and already have) shot down any suggestion of change - these are just opinions and suggestions. No-one that I've seen is making any demands whatsoever, so stop twisting what we say, and if you're 100% happy with the game, fair enough, just stay out of these threads, or offer alternative advice. Telling people to shut up and go elsewhere is going to turn people away in droves. Thinning the fan-base has never been a great tactic for future development and support.

i am sure they appreciate feedback

He's been quiet for a while now. I'm hoping he got a time out for bad behavior, but I know better than to get my hopes up.Kurgen wrote:dbgager, you are digging yourself an unending hole here. Your debate tactics seem to consist of :

I'm not usually that rude when I debate someone on a forum, but his posts were, by far, the most ignorant, selfish and close minded I've ever seen on the internet(which is saying something).
It's disappointing really. I registered here to talk about how I enjoyed the game, and to discuss things that could be made better.
It's people like him that ruin discussion for the rest of us.
Re: Developer's attitude and the community
Feedback that suggests slight alterations or fixes in the current game model is one thing, suggestions that require a TON of coding, change the core concepts of the game radically or are aimed at making the game more like Game X from 20 years ago is quite another.
That's exactly what I have in mind - requests that would either change the core game radically, or would require (I imagine) a lot of coding effort to achieve very minor effects.

I believe that we all see eye to eye on this.Curunir wrote:Feedback that suggests slight alterations or fixes in the current game model is one thing, suggestions that require a TON of coding, change the core concepts of the game radically or are aimed at making the game more like Game X from 20 years ago is quite another.

But I'm not aware of anyone asking anything that radical, and even if they did, I doubt the developers would even consider it.
Re: Developer's attitude and the community
Well, consider if you will the requests people have made for a way to slow down the game to make it easier for people with slow reflexes to complete puzzles. HUUUUUGE amount of work? No. One line of Lua. You can do it yourself if you get a lua console up:Curunir wrote:Feedback that suggests slight alterations or fixes in the current game model is one thing, suggestions that require a TON of coding, change the core concepts of the game radically or are aimed at making the game more like Game X from 20 years ago is quite another.

Re: Developer's attitude and the community
I think in a lot of cases you might be missing the point Curunir. I wouldn't say people are demanding changes or additions to the game or its content. I would say what you have here is an extremely excited fan base that has ideas or wants to throw out suggestions in the hopes that it might spark a common creative thought in the devs. the people who are throwing out ideas here in many cases, probably, don't have the resources or know-how of there own to see there own creative ideas through to some sort of tangible result they are satisfied with (I'm reminded of the story of the sculptor who owned a perfect block of marble, but never carved it because the statue he saw in his mind could never be reproduced in the marble. So he remained content staring at the marble knowing the creation at least existed in his mind). So we throw what we think are good creative ideas out there in the hope it strikes a cord with the community and the devs and that maybe it will be taken up by more capable hands.Curunir wrote:I am staring to think the community for this game suddenly became waaay too demanding just because AH are indie devs who listen to fans. But some people are carrying this a little too far, it seems.
There are topics asking for about 50 changes / additions to be made. Seriously, people, the developers made a game. You liked what you saw of it and read about it so you bought it. But maybe you can't expect devs to radically change the game or add a ton of things to it just because someone thought they're cool. Mod tools - sure, knock yourself out. But stop throwing random suggestions all the time. AH made the game the way it is and the way they intended it to be played. If you disagree, wait for mod tools, work on mods. If not, well, tough luck. The devs have been very responsive so far but you understand they can't please everyone and that none of this 'pls add/change x" would fly with any bigger dev/publisher...
Just don't abuse AH's goodwill.
Re: Developer's attitude and the community
The time multiplier was implemented for debugging purposes and it is invaluable when trying to spot animation issues and such. Using it will break things like audio sync and it can introduce a myriad of bugs since it has not been tested. For these reasons it's unlikely that slowing down the game will be an official feature.seebs wrote:Well, consider if you will the requests people have made for a way to slow down the game to make it easier for people with slow reflexes to complete puzzles. I'll just bump this up here for xdeath, seebs and Kurgen. Because it's a single line of code. As seebs enlightened us...antti wrote: The time multiplier was implemented for debugging purposes and it is invaluable when trying to spot animation issues and such. Damn those pesky devs for refusing to add a feature that's just one line of code
Re: Developer's attitude and the community
Jeeeeez, you are impossible. You couldn't resist, could you? Why do you feel such an urge to put words in people's mouths? Where have I EVER alluded to any mods being simple to implement?!? Seriously, where? The dishonesty in you guys is astounding.
