Should there be an option to enable static level-up?

Post by Ethos »

With the way that the level up randomness is right now it really discourages several character builds unless you are willing to reload numerous times to get optimal health/energy increases. I know that the "old-school" level up design is intentional but I only play on hard difficulty and the game certainly isn't designed to play certain character builds unless you want to reload over and over until you get the max increases (Or else your character can't take more than one or two hits). Losing out on 1-5+ health and energy per level if you don't reload can be a huge deal. The way it is now reloading level-ups can potentially have more of an effect than your vitality or willpower statistics.

I can only imagine how much of a difference this randomness could make after longer campaigns/dungeons are made with the dungeon editor and you can get to higher levels than the default dungeon.

Indeed I agree, I never liked random hitpoints if it wasn't pen&paper. There should be a fixed amount you get every level based on your stats.

I never even noticed that stats on level up are random.

The level editor will have an option for this. You can choose if you want random points added or fixed. I prefer random which will pre selected randomly for all levels at the beginning of the game once and when you reload you will receive the same amount of hit points or any other statistics.

If you don't mind me asking where was this stated? I haven't been able to find much information on the level editor's options other then them stating that it would be rather simple on first release.

Less and less of a difference? Honestly the higher level you get the closer and closer your HP and mana will get to being +/- 5 from the average, that is the way probability works.

And because, unlike AD&D, your starting HP is significantly greater than the amount you gain every level it won't make a difference at low levels either.

Trust me I rolled a lot of dice back in the day.

I didn't say there is a level editor with these options yet , but if level editor will be released , might there will be an option to select if you want static leveling or radomly in your current adventure and this if will supported by the engine.
