[SPOILERS]Fighting Ogres, how do you?
[SPOILERS]Fighting Ogres, how do you?
I've only fought one ogre so far, and once the spiders were dead he wasn't much of a threat. Since he absorbed all of my mana and ranged weapons and was still kicking, I adopted a "matador" tactic and stood in his charge path until he charged, side stepped, and hit him with a melee weapon as he ran by. It was safe and fairly effective, but took a while.

2x2 trick. Essentially kiting him around a 2x2 square. It's, really, how I kill most of the tougher mobs.
Re: Fighting Ogres, how do you?
Same technic, plus frostbolt to freeze him and end the fight sooner.
Re: Fighting Ogres, how do you?
Killed one ogre via 'matador' and one via 'death from above'. The latter was highly amusing. Beer went up my nose backwards.
Re: Fighting Ogres, how do you?
I was doing this until he got a lucky turn strike in and almost killed one of my fighters, decided to keep him farther away from me after that.Drax wrote:2x2 trick. Essentially kiting him around a 2x2 square. It's, really, how I kill most of the tougher mobs.
Re: Fighting Ogres, how do you?
Just gotta be super quick. Try and strike from the side as much as possible.
Re: Fighting Ogres, how do you?
I get that, but I swear the ogre has the additional ability to swing while turning, he caught me off guard once and now I don't want to risk it. Try it again on the next one thoughDrax wrote:Just gotta be super quick. Try and strike from the side as much as possible.
Re: Fighting Ogres, how do you?
Ogres can attack the sides as well as the front (unlike say spiders) but seem to favour turning anyway. So quickly moving to his side and then back to your original tile is the best bet though admittedly still risky.
Re: Fighting Ogres, how do you?
I was real tempted to give the ogre maul to my minotaur, but it weighs so damn much, I can't afford it. That and it's slow...
Re: Fighting Ogres, how do you?
I have two mages, an archer rogue and a mino swordsman. I use a frost bomb and then hammer him with everything I have until he comes to. Between the damage dump while he's frozen and the two arrows and 2 spells that fly at him while he's charging forward, he's dead pretty quick. Since my party is mostly paper cannons - and since I invariably mis-click in evasive melee - any approach that puts me near them usually ends in a trip to see that nice shiny blue stone to get my mages back on their feet.
Hopefully there's either less ogres or more frost bombs after level 10, otherwise my party is going to be pretty ticked off at me for what I'm about to put them through.
