Not a good idea :x
As if steam games don't get pirated the very instant they unlock.

The only sure way to combat piracy is by making games people want to buy period.

So, if you haven't already noticed, here are the breaking news: if you buy directly from us, you get both the standalone version (when game is released) AND a steam key.

That's what I just did. Bought it twice. I expected to pay at least 20 dollars anyway, now I have maximum convenience and the devs have more money to make a sequel with ;) ~puppydog eyes~

Not necessarily. The Witcher 2 was released as a Standalone on GOG, and the DRM in the boxed versions was patched out shortly after the launch date. Ironically the version that wound up in the pirate sites was a cracked Steam version. Amongst the pirate crowd it is the actuall cracking of the DRM that excites them, a standalone installer offers no challenge.

Thanks for the info! To go absolutely sure: Will there be any kind of DRM/online activation on the standalone version?

(You might want to add that info to your FAQ - at least if there's no DRM)

It's the same version GOG sells.

Thanks for the answer Petri and Antti. I'm pre-ordering directly from you guys, then.

I won't buy it on steam because I don't care about achievements and I don't want to support DRM. I don't care about convenience either. I generally buy things from Stardock, GOG or Paradox.
