Favorite old school RPG's
Re: Favorite old school RPG's
Mmmm difficult to say but i will try:
Might and Magic Saga (especially II, but love III, IV and V, VI is not bad)
Bloodwych: Come one... a coop RPG with split screen... SO many hours wasted
Daggerfall: Awesome piece of bugs, but fun as hell ( a "little" repetitive immo)
Fallout 2: I think is game is the best rpg ever done. Huge, fun...

Might&magic II, III, IV and V (the best of the serie).
Lands of lore 1
Stonekeep : very good dungeon crawler of Interplay
Ishar 1
Baldur's gate 1 and 2
The legacy : very good RPG by Microprose
Planescape torment
Eye of the beholder series (1, 2 and 3)
Dungeon master
The bard's tale
Daggerfall
The temple of elemental evil
Ultima underworld
Arcanum
Ultima series (1 to 7)
The best if for myself : Might&magic series

I've played most of the games mentioned above and I agree that they are all great but I wonder why no one ever mentioned Captive, that was a great sci-fi RPG!

-Anvil of Dawn
http://youtu.be/7-K32Q75AM4
From more modern days RPGs
-Temple of Elemental Evil with Circle of Eight is arguably the best D&D representation of cRPG up to this day. (and pure turn-based battle tactic heaven)
-And from more indie pure dungeon crawl perspective
Monster's Den beats all of em (until Godfall comes out ofc :p)

- Ultima 5
- Dungeon Master
- Eye of the Beholder 1 & 2
- Amberstar & Ambermoon
Those were my favourites back in the days on my Amiga 500... but I never finished them (except EotB)... the summer breaks never lasted long enough.

Re: Favorite old school RPG's
1. Dungeon Master
2. Chaos Strikes Back
3. Captive (if we go sci-fi for a change)
4. Dungeon Master 2
....big gap!....
Ishar 2
Baldur's Gate / Icewind Dale
Daggerfall
I found Return to Chaos to be the best DM, DM2, CSB 'emulator' for the PC, and have got a large (unfinished) adventure in development using the fantastic RTC editor.

Re: Favorite old school RPG's
I'm more of a JRPG person, and some of my favorite old school games of that genre are:
Chrono Trigger
Secret of Mana
Terranigma
Final Fantasy series
Breath of Fire III
If we're talking western RPGs though, then I would say Fallout 1&2 and Neverwinter Nights are my favorites, followed by Diablo 2 and Nox.

Personally I love most FF games (in the main series), especially X and XII which I spent nearly 500 hours on combined, though FFVII still remains my favorite game of all time. I understand what you mean though, the newer FF games don't appeal to everyone, and this is especially true for XII and XIII.Mameluk wrote:Yeah, totally agreed, Final Fantasy sold out. The new ones are almost too terrible to look at, starting from FF X. Pretty graphics aren't enough to cover the horrors of those games.
