Does Dark Bolt do damage? When to use it?

Does Dark Bolt do damage?

If not, When should I use it?

Going by the LoG2 asset pack it does 30 damage.

That's just the default damage for a dark_bolt object. The actual Darkbolt spell gives it 10 attack power (regardless of skill level), so it will do between 5 and 15 damage.

Because of the low damage its main purpose is to blind monsters. Blinded monsters basically have their sight range reduced to 2 squares, and get a moderate accuracy penalty (30).

It's also one of the few ways to deal damage to air elementals, but the Dispel spell is better for this purpose if available.
