How does the experience system work in this game [Solved]
I'm so confused on how this exp system in this game works. So i went through the first floor to the second floor and 3 of my 4 characters leveled up. 1 fighter 2 rogues but not my mage. I invested all it point in air magic and couldn't do any dmg with the character the entire time because of that since there's no air magic on the first floor it seems. The mage was really behind in exp by almost half or more. So i started over again after reading the manual and it says as long as the character does dmg they get experience.
So same team makeup for the most part and getting to the first snail. I killed it by doing dmg with all the characters rotating the back to front so they can get a hit and a actual dmg hit for that matter to get experience. But again the mage only got half the exp and it's in the fourth slot. I tried this again and and did dmg with all the characters except with one of my front line rogue who didn't do any dmg. I rotated the mage up front to get some dmg and then rotating it to the back row before the killing blow. The one rogue didn't do any dmg after the killing blow got full experience but my mage who again is in the fourth slot got only half the exp even though it did dmg and not the front line rogue. Doing this all over again I left the mage in front line second slot and my rogue in the fourth slot back row and to my surprise it seems the fourth slot is bugged or something and will not get full exp even if it does dmg or not.
So I'm trying to determine if the fourth slot is bugged or not it seems like it is or am I totally missing something

Alright i figured out the exp system works in this game. I made a couple reply in this post but I'll put all the information in here so it's easier to read and find.

The way the system works currently is that when the enemy dies any of the slots that does dmg even 0 counts get full experience. A missed attack for the entire fight or doing nothing in that slot it will only get half experience after the mob is dead.
Experience is not split amongst the party if someone only gets half the experience. The number you see when you kill a monster is the number everyone gets unless a slot on your team miss the entire fight or does nothing and only get half of it and the other half is NOT distributed to the other players.
You will not be able to get extra exp for other characters thus you're just flat out losing it. By the end of the game everyone should be at the same amount of experience so it's not advisable to one shot monsters but use weaker attacks so everyone can get the full experience in the game. I haven't finished the game so I'm not aware if there's any certain types of immune to certain attack mobs or not that will throw this off.
Here are some scenarios to make this easier to understand what I have been talking about.

[3][4]
So with a team setup like this if the slots [1][2][3] does dmg but slot [4] doesn't do anything or miss every attack then only the [4] gets half exp.
[1][2] -> [1][4] -> [1][2]
[3][4] -> [3][2] -> [3][4]
You start the fight with [1][2][3] does dmg and [4] doesn't do anything or miss every attack
Then you switch spot [2] with [4] for whatever reason like take a hit quickly but never attack with [2] in that bottom slot and attack with [4] in the front slot
Afterwards you bring [2] back to the front and [4] to the back
Kill the mob
The character in slot [4] will only get half experience even though he did dmg.
[1][2]
[3][4]
If [3][4] blows up a mob before it even gets to your group only [3][4] will full experience and the front [1][2] will only gain half
[1][2] -> [3][4] -> [1][2]
[3][4] -> [1][2] -> [3][4]
Slots [3][4] does dmg [1][2]
You switch the front with the back and [3][4] only does dmg and [1][2] doesn't do anything or miss every attack
Switch the front with the back again with [3][4] doing dmg and [1][2] doesn't do anything or miss every attack
Mob dies
The entire team will gain experience even though [1][2] doesn't do anything or miss every attack
Pack of FOUR mobs
After getting further in the game I finally encountered the pack of four mobs. Now if you followed everything above the same still applies. The problem with this pack of mobs is the front 2 If they're melee and can only do single target dmg they will only be able to hit the one that's directly in front of them which causes problem since the one of the left won't get full experience from the right and vice versa. Same goes with the back with a rogue with a range waepon they will only attack the one that's directly. When a monster dies in the front row the melee that was fighting will fight the next monster in the front row and will get more experience then the other melee since it was not able to get a shot on the other one since it is still preoccupied with the one currently in front of it. The range will continue to shoot the next mob in the back though and will not get experience from the other front mob unless the back one dies first before the other front mob dies.
The trick to getting everyone full experince is to have someone do aoe dmg in each slot. By moving him around and attack with a aoe spell in slot before the mob dies. I used a mage with fire burst to do this.
Example on how to do this if my explanation is to complicated
[1][2] -> [4][2] -> [1][4] -> [1][2] -> [1][2]
[3][4] -> [3][1] -> [3][1] -> [4][3] -> [3][4]
Slot [4] does aoe like fire burst or any other aoe spells the other slots can do what ever as long as it doesn't kill a monster
Move slot [4] to another spot and cast fire burst or any other aoe spell the other slots can do anything else as long as it doesn't kill the monsters
Keep repeating this pattern without killing a monster.
once you get back to your original position you can finish off the monster
This will allow you to gain full experience for everyone in your party.
About mobs with MAGIC SHIELDS
Later in the game there are mobs that have magic shields that absorb dmg. If anyone does dmg to the shield and not the actual mob they will only get half the experience even though they help break down the shield on the mob. Only way for someone to get full experience is for them to do dmg in that slot after the shield has gone down.
Edit some slight changes and clarification.
Did quite a bit of trials to figured out not sure if it's a bug or what but i'll put this finding in the bug section soon.

It looks like there's some kind of participation flag that is set for each monster.
You only get 1/2 experience if you don't participate. I believe participation is just simply doing damage.
So I tend to give rocks to my mage just to make sure he's doing something.
What I don't know (someone could check easily enough) is what happens to the experience your mage loses - is it split between the rest of the party - e.g.
50/50/50/50 and if your mage doesn't participate 58/58/58/25, or is the exp just lost - 50/50/50/25

Well I'v been getting little less exp on slot 4, but that being a rouge but cant tell if I used him much at start as it is with bow so less used from all. Maybe it has something to do with dmg dealt too who knows.

The thing is I made my mage who was in the fourth slot do dmg actual dmg not just a miss and put back to the fourth slot in the back row and still only got half the experience. While the rogue who did no dmg and was in the front row in the second slot got full experience even though i did 0 dmg to the monster.
What i believe is happening is the game rewarding experience to the character in the slot as long as any character in that slot did some dmg. The back row always has the one rogue who throws a rock and does dmg which is in the third slot and always gotten full experience from the kill. I'll have to test this out.

Alright I just tested it out. So it doesn't matter what character does dmg at all. The only thing that matters for experience in the game is as long as that slot does dmg. If you have front slot that does no dmg they will not get experience even if they did dmg from the back row then moved up to that front slot before the monster dies and vice versa. If a character does no dmg in the back slot even if he gets rotated to a front slot that someone else has done dmg even if it's not done by him he will get experience and the person who did dmg in that front slot or where ever was rotated to that back slot that where no one has done dmg in that slot will only get half of the experience.

May I ask why you're moving your characters around in the slots mid-battle? I was moving characters to do that test on the first mob to figure out how experience system works. For normal game play you could move a front slot character to the back if they were about to die and you needed someone to take a hit instead.May I ask why you're moving your characters around in the slots mid-battle? It's an interesting observation re damage, but I haven't had occasion to move characters around to experience the impact of your observation.

Tbh it should be listed as a Major bug even.
Game doesn't recognise induvidual chars attack, but only the slots from which they attacked. I wonder what goes wrong if you move character several times even and only do dmg with him for example, does that make all char get 100% exp

Hm my mage has been in the 4th slot the whole game.
Now on dungeon level 6 he has the most xp of everyone (approx. 500xp more).
No one has ever died or anything and mostly the mage just bolts 1-2 times in a battle, rest thrown.
Haven't figured the xp system out yet, but i suspect it also has to do something with the dmg done.
