I ran into this error recently for LOG 1 and 2 and after reinstalling drivers/redist/ect it was still happening.
I finally fixed it by going into the grimrock.cfg file in "Documents\Almost Human\Legend of Grimrock" and changing the resolution to my default resolution. For some reason, it was set to "1152 x 864" and this was causing the error. I'm posting this in case anyone else runs into this error.

Bottomline:
The game(s) could not identify your display correctly.
Your manual modification of grimrock.cfg fixed it only temporary. It's highly likely your "error" will return with any change in "Options". The cause is usually inside the system setup. Going by the error message it's prolly your DX9 installation.
For Windows prior to Win10 reinstalling DX9 should fix this.
