This game needs more story?

Post by Neil79 »

This is a great game there is no doubt about it but there seems to be something missing, it doesn't seem to have the soul of other dungeon crawlers... What I mean is for example in lands of lore you meet new characters along the way and there is a bit more to the story it has more life, the same with eye of the beholder you sometimes might meet another character trapped below. But so far there isn't any of that in grimrock.

I'm hopeing that the modders will add this in or even a bit of an expansion to the game, as i said a great game but it's missing something...

I don't know about the word needs, I think however it would benefit from some kind of backstory, even if we only saw glimpses of it.

Something I loved about EotB was being able to find dead adventurers and raise them - there wasn't much back story there, but the very little that there was made the game considerably better.

In DM having the Hall of Champions which suggested a history behind all of those characters... my imagination did the rest.

Yeh kinda what I was getting across!

Like the amazon woman in EOB 3 or the guy warning you about the ghosts higher up, or even the people in the tavern of lands of lore

Well there is a backstory in the opening sequence and in the Manual. The rest is revealed when
SpoilerShow
you Rest as you go down further into the Dungeon
haven't got to the end yet, but guess something gonna be revealed at the near end itself.

That's true, however I think Neil and I are more referring to little snippets of myth and lore that you might stumble across; little side stories that aren't directly related to the resolution of the main plot line. You could call them flavour I think.

while i definitely see your point,
I have to say it is refreshing to see a game that focuses on actual gameplay
something that is sorely lacking in many "games" these days

Yes, this is more of a garnish on the game, rather than the core of it. You get nowhere without gameplay :)

You guys have not been paying attention. The dreams .The notes that litter the floors. The background story in the manual. There is plenty of story. WHat are you trying to do ..turn it into a Bioware game. THe gameplay is perfect. Thats the important thing. I don't need to be standing there in a 15 minute click on your response conversation.

That's not what we mean and yes we have been paying attention, the zzzzzzzzz dreams are not hard to miss

And saying we are trying to turn it into a bioware game is a complete insult as far as i'm concerned
