I haven't seen it posted, but has anyone else noticed that you can pre-set your spells if you want? I'm just starting out, but if I use fire-burst for example, I can have my mage open up the runes, pre-set fire-burst and then close it if I want and then when I open the runes the next time the runes are still highlighted. Now they you still have to press them again after you use the spell, but it's a nice way to have one spell at the ready so you can shoot something out quick.

It's a very useful technique. I hope all these people complaining about the magic system have simply overlooked it.

I'd like a quick spell list that can be opened and closed. Once you learn a spell, it's put in your quick spell list. But the list has limited slots. (say, 4) Essentially, just enough for utility spells and maybe a single attack spell. If you want to cast something else, you need to know the runes.

I think the ones voicing concern know this already. And for me the issue is during combat when I want my mage(s) to cast the same spell repeatedly. It would be a big improvement if the rune window had an additional button, "quick cast" that would recast the last spell that was cast by that specific mage.CommanderKeen wrote:I haven't seen it posted, but has anyone else noticed that you can pre-set your spells if you want? I think it's a great step forward on the DM system. I like that everything is on the one page, that you don't spend mana to highlight what you want, you only do it when you actually cast the spell. Aesthetically it's just simply pleasing not to have 4 sets of runes. Of course I'd like to echo that I wish it either didn't wipe when you cast a spell, or there was some way to set a mages default offensive spell so that just like fighters and rogues you could right click and have them perform an 'attack'.

I'm using the Autohotkey script for quick casting 2 spells - essentially one for each mage. Makes the game much much better.
The nice thing about the spell system is that you can relatively easily cast any spell, no pages to flip through, etc. The downside is that it can get lame to chain cast the same spell by clicking 3+ buttons. It would have been nice if they implemented basic hotkeys so I don't have to have 200 APM to play the game.

easier <> better
I'd forgotten about DM making you spend your mana when you do a rune. I actually think they should add that. Mistakes should be available for you to make at every chance possible. Challenge!

I'd take one of the four wooden clubs I was carrying and just bash open doors with it.
