Suggestions for additional spells
The spell system is functional, but yet very simple and limited as of now. I think there's room for more, esp. in terms of auxiliary spells - personally, I'd like to see a "gust of wind" spell that pushes enemies back (e.g. having small enemies being pushed back two squares, medium ones pushed back only one square and leaving large enemies unaffected). Useful to break free if surrounded, to push enemies into traps or to generally keep them at a distance.

That would be a very nice addition, but as of now (unfortunately) there's no need to cast anything other than Fireball and the occasional Fire Shield. All the other spells don't even measure up, especially considering that

one of the treasures is an orb that strengthens your Fireball/Fireblast spells. Rocks with Improved Fireball if you put 24 (I guess) into Fire Magic.

I focused on ice instead of fire. There's nothing like wailing away at a deep-frozen Uggardian.

Maybe some more supportive spells would be nice too? Like bless or something like that. Can easily 'think' (borrow) of a huge amount of spells from that category. Protection/shield, heal/increased regeneration, haste, slow (on enemies), obscure (to increase evade), blind, and so on. Lots of room for improvement!

Some random ideas:
Ice + Air = a lingering cloud that does ice damage and slows enemies.
Fire + Air = A 3 tile long burst of fire
Physicality + Air = gust of wind that knocks enemies back.
Fire + Earth = A lingering pool of magma that does fire damage.
Earth + Physicality = columns of stone rise out of the ground and block melee attacks (I'd make it a brief sold wall, but that might interfere with puzzles
Life + Earth = vines that root that enemy and do periodic earth damage
Death + Earth = Skeletal hands that root the enemy and do periodic earth damage

Maybe also some kind of area stun/hold spell, could be something like: Air + Physicality + Balance + Earth

This. They don't even have to add new fancy visual effects, just more variety. The number of spells in the game is extremely limited. Every elemental school has only 4 spells and they do pretty much the same thing in slightly different flavors. 15-20 points in a school you already have all spells, there's plenty room for more.RPGAlien wrote:Maybe some more supportive spells would be nice too? Actually, I think we have enough offensive spells. I'd rather go the Anvil of Dawn way and come up with more outlandish stuff like, say, a pure death spell that, if successful, kills any enemy instantly, but only has a roughly 20% chance of effect and eats up all of the mage's energy bar at once.
