Especially in RPGs where you get to a (final) boss fight... Because then you've gone all that way, and have a pretty good chance at death...
I've won about 90 % of the games I played (my way). I won G2 without reloading and I'll win G1 as well. Maybe already the next time. You can win everything with strategy and concentration. Try and error can't be a part of a RPG.
If I lose a boss fight because I made a mistake the game is lost forever. I don't restart it after losing the final fight. ( Dear,I just think about to restart Ultima 4 oder the later ones of this series after losing the endfight )
But you're right. I don't play many games. I've an interesting job, friends and more. Maybe after I reach the retirement age in a few years this will change .
I see... You're basically playing it "hard-core" mode. The stones represent save-points for when you are done playing, and allow for resurrection when you haven't lost the full team, but you're playing a style where, if you get a game over, then it's REALLY game over.

Sorry, I suck at quoting..... But it´s a reply to Dr. Disaster previous reply....
New question:
How does a higher level party make the level 7 iron door easier?

Higher stats and skills, more Health and Energy, better gear, more damage ...
Now I'll train a bit .... more ... and more . (@ Dr. Disaster : Who knows what happens down there ). The icelizards rarely hit and they produce food. And they respawn fast. So because I have plenty of time I'll train the party up to 14 (and the mage to 15). My mage has the mirror pendant so an icelizard'll brings close to 900 XP to her.
Some cups of tea, some cakes, good music ....
I'm very patient.
Those little blue T.Rex will have a very bad time .

I´m not sure we are talking about the same challenge...
I´m talking about the bolts of light you have to catch without anyone get past you and hitting the opposite wall...
I think there´s a part of the Chitin armor behind the door....
The main thing to keep in mind for that challenge, is that [even on a fast machine] you likely cannot succeed at it, if anyone in you party is overloaded; [they make the party move too slow].

Well I guess the low performance of my laptop made it pretty much impossible... Maybe that´s one of the reasons i´m not a fan of timed puzzles...
None in my party was overloaded though, i´m not a hoarder...

True, your reference to the Halls of Fire mislead me. I thought you were talking about the Fighter's Challenge.
The problem with the timed iron door challenge on level 7 on low perf systems are gfx details and shadow. It's virtually impossible to do if your system - or more precisely your GPU - can't at least produce 30 frames per second while the blobs are flying. To compensate switch to low rendering mode and a low resolution.
