Since Windows Vista, it's been very easy for developers to set Documents\My Games\Game name as the savegame location. Unfortunately, Grimrock has joined the long list of games that completely ignore that fact.
I'm one of those weird people that likes to work on his computer so in Documents, I keep a bunch of documents. Essays, assignments bladebladebla. Not having clutter created by games that fill it up with their own files and folders is great because it makes it easier to find those files that are in Documents. A place for documents.
Is it perhaps too much to ask for a simple patch that moves the savegame directory to where it should be; Documents\My Games?
Grimrock has set the precedent for games in a lot of areas, simple folder organisation is another area it could aid in the pioneering of.
Additionally, I also have Dropbox set up with symlinks to automatically sync my savegames. This is done much easier if all save games for all games are in My Games.
Why are savegames in Documents?

You should totally see star wars.
Re: Why are savegames in Documents?
one thing that be very cool is the ability to set the save path in some INI file somewhere. i could set up the savepath in my dropbox folder et voilà, got my stuff on the go
Re: Why are savegames in Documents?
Not everyone runs Vista.
$10 says someone will eventually be wanting to run this on windows 2000 for some insane reason. Beyond that minimum requirement is windows xp not vista. Either way; it's a bad idea to change the save game path now that the game has been released. It would mean more work for more people to change their backup settings just so your folder is "pretty".
Syncing to dropbox is easy: just use symbolic link

Re: Why are savegames in Documents?
This has got to be the most petty complaint I've ever seen. You REALLY can't deal with having a single folder in your Documents folder? OCD much?
Re: Why are savegames in Documents?
Probably because "/My Games" isn't really a standard folder, even though it's a common practice.
Re: Why are savegames in Documents?
In regards to using Dropbox, just symbolic link the current save path to your My Games folder.JPred wrote:Not everyone runs Vista.

He is obviously dealing with it. You, however, appear incapable of dealing with the fact that someone dares to want things to be done right.regomar wrote:This has got to be the most petty complaint I've ever seen. You REALLY can't deal with having a single folder in your Documents folder? OCD much?
