When it comes to an update, I download and replace the current one. Does the game have to be started from the beginning?

Good question.

I have no patching device in the game - so loading your savegame will give a warning.

Could be that certain things do not run propperly. If you want to be sure to be save from crashes you should re-start the game, yes.

Before I teleport to the laboratory, only one thing seemed out of place, the empty treasure chest in the first big room after teleporting to the cellar of the townhall. Was there anything to do with that?

Question about the essence of balance:

In the wizardry library, in the area by the northwest doors, I stuck the essence of balance in the opposite alcove, which caused the force field to move over to it, and allow me to take the hub key. But now the essence of balance is stuck behind the force field. Is this meant to happen? If not, how do I get it back?

Do I need the essence of Balance for other things?

I'm pretty sure I'm finished with Plunder Village. One question though:

When it came to giving the equipment to Davy Jones, I happened to have 2 time pieces and gave him one of them. I gave him my compass and now don't have a compass. Is a compass needed for other puzzles? Is there a second one somewhere?

I'm not sure if I have placed another compass anywhere (and I can't have a look into the project right now). But there is no compelling need anywhere to use a compass. Some people only like to have one, especially when they have the automap turned off.

It's fine, I actually didn't play for a few days.

I only asked, because there is that note that says,

"sort elsewhere the four by point of the compass then by colours,"
so I thought maybe I still needed one. But maybe it's really just logic, and that means using all 4 directions, versus needing to be in a specific direction. Either way, I'm not there yet.

I'm in the tomb of artaxes, and I'm stuck. I've looked through the forum and saw the hints you gave, and still can not figure it out:

1) By the teleporter puzzle where you can't pass because it teleports you right back to the spot you started, I see I have to throw something and I've seen the 2 pressure plates, but I don't know what to throw. I've seen discussion about things of different weight, but I've looked through my inventory, and don't know what else I can throw, and from what square I'm supposed to throw it form.

2) By the puzzle with the 4 faces that shoot light balls, I opened the secret wall with the torch. You mentioned a very covert mechanism to open the second secret wall to uncover the 4th light receiver, but I have looked everywhere, tried all different things, and can't figure it out.

I'd ask for just a hint, but I'm at a point that I kinda just want the solution.
