game not loading (steam)

I preordered through grimrock official website, recieved key, which i used last night to authenticate and begin downloading through steam. This morning i loaded the game for the first time and it did the usual directx check, then said preparing to launch legend of grimrock, and then.. nothing.
I closed and reloaded steam but it just says preparing to launch and then nothing happens. Have verified integrity of files. have shutdown and restarted computer. have tried logging into game through steam website. I have also deleted the game and redownloaded from steam. noone else seems to be having trouble on the steam forums. oh and my system is well above recommended specs

any help? thanks

edit. just downloaded and ran the standalone installer and upon clicking the exe file i get this error:

entry point not found
the procedure entry point
??1critical_section@Concurrency@@QAE@XZ could not be located in the dynamic link library MSVCR100.dll

2nd edit. so this is somehow related to .net framework and/or visual c++? i'm running windows 7 64bit

OK guys, solving my own problem but posting this in case anyone else has a similar problem.

and afterwards both the standalone and steam versions of grimrock worked fine.

This worked for me
