Re: Intermittently slow/stuttery/choppy gameplay. Only somet
Nope, it's not Steam. I just saw the same thing happen when running Crysis, which is a disc-installed game, Steam was completely exited. Again, the game ran fine for a while and then the "Util" perfcap occurred. Of course, Crysis pushes the GPU and memory controller load up to 99 percent, ...

Re: Intermittently slow/stuttery/choppy gameplay. Only somet
Okay, it doesn't seem to matter if I'm connected wired ethernet or WiFi... the problem exists either way. But I still think it happens more often on my home network than on my work network. Still can't be certain because of the random nature of the problem. I tried stopping and disabling all of thes...

Re: help with island master fight
I still haven't beat the Island Master, but I'm coming close to it, and I have some ideas about it. Some of which contradict things that were already said in this thread... Elsewhere in the thread it says that you should wait a bit and let the Trickster open up the smaller rooms, and then try to tra...

Re: Intermittently slow/stuttery/choppy gameplay. Only somet
I still haven't narrowed down what's causing the issue. On a hunch, I tried deinstalling the Apple "Bonjour" service because that sometimes gave me other unrelated troubles, I thought maybe it was related, but it had no effect on the problem. My next step is to try disabling the other serv...

Re: Intermittently slow/stuttery/choppy gameplay. Only somet
Agreed that Ethernet+Corp and Wifi+Home are different situations. Thinking back, I did have the problem occur, and did do some of the diagnostic troubleshooting on this problem, when it was connected via ethernet at my desk. However there is a chance that at that time it was dual-homed, connected vi...

Re: Intermittently slow/stuttery/choppy gameplay. Only somet
Man, I just can't figure this out. Disconnecting from both WiFi and Ethernet does not make the problem go away. Though being disconnected from WiFi seems to significantly reduce the frequency with which it occurs. I don't have solid statistics, but I played it for quite a while last night and this m...

Re: Intermittently slow/stuttery/choppy gameplay. Only somet
Nope, selecting "Prefer Consistent Performance" did not solve the issue either, the problem still recurred after a while (though it seemed to take longer to occur, that could have been random chance). My next step is to disconnect from the WiFi while playing and see if that solves the prob...

Re: Intermittently slow/stuttery/choppy gameplay. Only somet
Is that really what the "16" value means? My googling seems to indicate it means the opposite: The driver reduces the voltage to the GPU (and the GPU clock speed) when it detects that the GPU isn't needed, ie, to save battery life. If that's the case, then it would make sense that the brie...

Re: Intermittently slow/stuttery/choppy gameplay. Only somet
Okay, I took the laptop home and started playing. I got the problem fairly quickly, it took less than 20 minutes of play to see the problem happen. The problem is definitely a PerfCap on the Nvidia card. What GPU-Z said for the reason was "Util", aka reason #16 in the GPU-Z log file. Some ...

Re: Intermittently slow/stuttery/choppy gameplay. Only somet
The fact that the problem is not happening now (daytime at the office) probably means one of a few things: - The fact that GPU-Z is now successfully monitoring the PerfCap flag ... is heisenberging the situation and preventing the GPU from perfcapping for some reason. - The fact that the laptop is c...
