Re: Combat should be turn-based

DM started it 'big time'.
EoB was 'just' the SSI AD&D reduced DM-clone with nice graphics.
LoG is more DM and has nicer graphics then EoB.

Re: Combat should be turn-based

... LoG endgame gameplay feels more like an action game than a dungeon crawler. So what do you think? I think we had this discussion before and came to the conclusion that LoG is all and foremost a perfect modern clone of the revolutionary grandfather of the '3D Real-time Dungeon Crawlers' - 'Dunge...

Re: AH: turn based suggestion for next game

I was thinking in the same direction in the last days. A 3d-dungeon crawler 'Grimrock-style' with roguelike-depth gameplay. But I don't think AH could pull this stunt alone by themself. The realy deep roguelikes like DCSS have been worked on over years (decades!). So, AH had to take already existing...

Re: Torchlight Crawlers

Some more nice find: (Doug Bell is one of the original Dungeon Master game devs): Here's a bit of trivia from someone who was there. Dungeon Master doesn't have anything to do with Tolkien, at least not directly. There are some loose associations with D&D that came from Andy Jaros, the graphic a...

Re: Torchlight Crawlers

Some more trivia from the 'archaic times of dungeon crawling' taken from Snafaru's Oubliette Fan Page : I became very interested in Oubliette when I learned from researching the internet that it was one of the games Wizardry was based on. So, there I went finding the game files and fired it up and.....

Re: Torchlight Crawlers

... 2. I agree games should be classified by major features (read: gameplay elements?) and we should have different terms for the subgenres. I wish we had proper categories. It seems it was always convoluted. Just look in this Issue of Computer Gaming World (Issue Number: 2.3 Date: May-Jun 1982): h...

Re: Torchlight Crawlers

...What I am interested to know is how long the term Dungeon Crawler has been in use. Is that really what they called them in the past or is it a relatively modern coin of phrase? Gamespot Review of Demise from the year 2000: Artifact Entertainment's Demise: Rise of the Ku'Tan has the straightforwa...

Re: Torchlight Crawlers

I'm basically with BadRaZoR here, but have to add some things to 'spread the light': First Wizardry game (' Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord ') was NOT the first . It was the first commercial successful adaption to home computers. http://blogensursis.free.fr/img/saga_oubliette.png Oubliette (was ...

They are not designed by a child, but are designed for 'children' by intention.
You can not 'grow', when playing this boring stuff.
It's all industrial designed 'cock-sucking' for the crowd ... to make money.
These games have no soul.
