I completed the puzzle in the tomb to get the power weapon to use against the cube. The cube keeps saying to not listen to the crystal below, etc. etc. as he is trying to pulverize me. Unclear what I must do. Was not able to figure out a way to make the crystal below do anything per the cube's state...

How do i complete the puzzle. I made it to the other side and pulled the lever but I can't get back over and keep falling in the pits! I'd love to figure out exactly how the puzzle works.
