Gog.com is where it's at for vintage adventures - I can thoroughly commend it - lovely community too. Neverwinter Nights Diamond Pack download is a must if you do not have it already, together with all the modules, of which Darkness over Daggerford is the most 'old school' in RPG/Baldur's Gate story...

I don't mind pits - as long as you fall down them on purpose with full health/mana and a spell/missile weps armed your fine, sometimes you even fall on an enemy and squish them for instant kill.
