I threw an axe to hit the pressure plate, which was successful, but it only closed the first of the two pits. What the heck am I supposed to do now?

there are two buttons next to the door, one opens the door you mention while closing the opposing one, the other button 2 blocks away shoots a lighnting bolt thing. the objective is to open that door, go to the other button, shoot the bolt, go to the door button and close/open the doors so that the...
