Re: Torchlight Crawlers
Atlas actually published a game for the Nintendo DS called "The Dark Spire" which is, if memory serves, almost a textbook Torchlight Crawler. The only thing missing is a hunger mechanic, but it has the rest: a hub town; a huge tower that you explore floor-by-floor, lighting is an issue, yo...

Re: Things the devs didn't think through
Really, what this thread boils down to is: 1) You barely get 50 Skill Points in your average play-through, thus making the capstone skills only obtainable to the exclusion of literally everything else. 2) Offense trumps defense so hard it's ridiculous. Even if you're trapped in a dead-end, you'll ta...

Re: Set Bonus?
I dunno, both sides have points. Those against the addition of set bonuses feel that additional stats on top of what the individual pieces grant might be "too much" or "too good" and thus require that the individual pieces be tweaked to be less powerful. It also opens up the trap...

Re: Comments on Game Design
I retract my previous statement. There is, in fact, a hole in the ceiling where you fell in.
Did they sneak that in in a patch, or am I just completely blind? Because I know I checked the ceiling on my first playthrough(s) and didn't see it.

Re: Comments on Game Design
Not neccesarily so strange. The tentackle faces know how to operate doors, and it could have been one of them about, turning a small room into a prison. \ Except that only Ogres inhabit that part of the dungeon (at least initially, and I don't think anything else spawns there). I suppose you could ...

Re: Reluctantly have to quit this game at Level 4
While I was able to beat all the timed puzzles in this game, I will freely admit that they were, bar none, the least fun part of the experience for me. In fact, I really dread trying to get the Sword of Nex on my subsequent playthroughs, because getting it the first time almost resulted in my fist g...

Re: Comments on Game Design
Rewarding you for jumping down pits was also pretty immersion-breaking: if everyone (except you) dies down here, why are there teleporters that take you out of every pitfall and back to safety? You're telling me that every single other prisoner died at the hands of the monsters? Or starving to death...

Re: Sword of nex. Frustration fest...
Weebu has the right idea, though. You have to get into a rhythm and tap the next movement key while your party is still performing their current "movement command". There should be a steady 'tap-tap-tap' going on (unless you're turning, as that's near-instant). It's a matter of mastering t...

Re: Let's Play LoG... in Dungeons & Dragons!
I really think you could do this 1st Edition style with a minimum of fuss. 1) Either start your Party at a slighty higher level (say, 5?) instead of Level 1, or make up monster statistics that are in-line with a small, weak, Level 1 party. 2) Make Clerics and Druids available, or allow for the easy ...

Re: Brilliant game up til Level 9. I won't be finishing it.
Honestly I thought the whole damn game was brilliant. Even the sometimes-maligned final 2 floors and final encounter(s), while a little contrived, still captured that Grimrock feel: they made you nervous and twitchy by running you around a huge, pit-and-monster infested level for an extended amount ...
