Fresh installed win7 pro and fully updated all sound, graphics, netcard drivers, fully updated directx (the web updateder updates all versions dll's) and the game still lags, hell all my games using directx still lag. It's either a bug with directx or one of my drivers is bugged. Either way grimrock...

Based on this: http://www.toymaker.info/Games/html/d3dx_dlls.html I'd start by renaming any dll that begins with XAudio2_ in the System32 or SysWOW64 folders. Updated Directx to fix XAudio2 error, creates lag
Ok so I had the same issue as http://www.grimrock.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=513 and I updated my directx 9.0c as other people in the same post did. It fixed the XAudio2 error in XAudio2Create issue but created massive lag spikes as a side effect. IT didn't just affect Grimrock, but now ever...

Installing directx 9c from the link a few posts above did fix this issue, but it's created another. Any game using directx now suffers random HEAVY lag spikes where I go from around 60fps down to 2-4 for a 2-3min period before it just suddenly rises back to 60+ fps... Using Win7 Pro 64bit, quadcore ...
