afaik from reading the forums, the keys drops randomly from the simple monsters during the boss fight. though when i was doing it the first time i ran around like crazy and didn't actually bother myself with simple monsters. atm going through second time to see if it's true or not :)

Now that I have beat the game a few questions spring to mind. The only way to damage the boss was with electrical damage. What if I did not have a mage in my party at all? No electrical damage and no way to make the room dark? What then? you don't need mage. assuming you're saying "making room...

also, i must say

anything throwable works ;). myself, i did that puzzle standing at the shadows crossing, used the throwing axe for the long one, and stone for the short one. worked fine :)

yes, works automatically, doesn't consume any extra energy, apart from the energy needed to perform a hit.
