I haven't gotten lightning bolt yet, but ice bolt is excellent. Nothing better than stopping a charging ogre dead in its tracks, walking behind it for backstab damage, and then freezing it with another ice bolt after it runs headlong into the wall.

I've only played hard mode. That said, I wouldn't judge normal's difficulty level until you've reached level 3 at least. That's the point at which the difficulty ramps up on hard mode. I bet even in normal you'll find yourself struggling to stay alive.

My advice: jump into every pit you find. But be careful if you've already tricked/deposited creatures into the very same pit... they'll be waiting for you below! So there's a pit, and in this pit there is a gate with a lever behind it and another gate which leads to a room with what looks to be a piece of armor.
