Re: 2x2 strafing undermines character building [edited]

Which is precisely how the game is designed. I'm fed up with cRPGs being 90% character building and statistical management. Save that for Football Manager, less is definitely more in a Dungeon Master style game. My one and only gripe about Grimrock is that there are too many visible stats and skill...

Re: Problem with spiders, severe arachnophobia

Spiders exist in many games. Giant spiders are pretty much a go-to critter for fantasy. Why is it that I have never seen arachnophobic people complain about it before, yet for this game it's a problem lamented about almost as often as circle strafing? Did Almost Human invest heavily in advertising a...

Re: Party Setup?

You might want to put a couple of points into dex to help with dodge in case you're attacked from behind, but I do feel that vitality is more useful as it helps resist the damage-entire-party spells, which I consider more common than rear assaults. Non-mages drain energy when they randomly perform t...

Re: Party Setup?

You made a mistake with your rogue. Dexterity is borderline useless for an archer. It's counter-intuitive, but as there's no hit roll for ranged weapons it will do nothing for him except increase his dodge. Stick to strength for increased damage. Another thing to consider is you might not see a miss...

Re: This is SO much like Dungeon Master...

The specific room I found frustrating with spiders was earlyish in the spider level. There's a timed gate you can run through, which closes behind you. At this point, you are in a room with two spiders. You can't go back through the gate until you've found the switch to open it. Spiders are fast an...

Re: So when can my wizard cast magic?

I can't imagine you got far before realising this, so starting again won't be too much of a problem. I usually do a few restarts while figuring out the party balance I want anyway. Alternatively, just wait. Everybody gets experience for all kills, it's just that the character who lands the killing b...

Minimising download while getting both Steam and DRM

It doesn't look like this has been covered, so I'd just like to point out that if you'd like to download the DRM free installation for backup purposes, but also want to play on Steam for achievements, you can save on downloading it twice in the following manner: download and install the DRM free cop...
